Center Heights Home

We have been making an effort to make it out into the community more. We had our Halloween walk, we have a partnership with Taylor & Company Spa and Salon downtown, and we recently went to sing for Center Heights. They really enjoy having us come over to visit. We will also be displaying some of our work at Taylor and Company.

Gingerbread Houses

We also made gingerbread houses the week before break. The kids brought in graham crackers, frosting, and a variety of candy to make them. It was a lot of fun and we made some very creative houses.

Buddy Reading

We went to Lark again the week before break. We gave our buddies cards with candy canes in them. They read a couple of books for us and we also read for them. Our class and the kindergartners really enjoy the time they get to spend with their buddies. When our class is in 5th grade, the kindergartners will be in 2nd, and we will all be at the same school together. This will be a nice connection for both of the grades.

Chex Mix

We wrapped up our measurement unit by making Chex Mix in class today. We took turns measuring out the different ingredients. They did a great job with converting things from cups, half cups, and quarter cups. It turned out very well, minus me burning some of it. We had it for our afternoon snack and they all ate it so I figured it wasn't that bad. We will begin temperature, calendars, and telling time this week and continue into next week.

Gallon Men

We made gallon men in math today. He breaks down how we measure liquids. They discovered more about gallons, half gallons, quarts, pints, and cups. They will keep these at school for the rest of the unit but it would be good to ask them what they learned and how the gallon man is set up.

Buddy Reading

We went to Lark today to read with our Kindergarten buddies for the first time today. We will be trying to do this once a month so they can form a bond with our buddies. They had a great time today. The kindergartners really like having us come to their room and they really look up to the third graders.

Planet Posters

They are working very hard on their planet posters! They are doing a great job researching and putting their posters together. We will be presenting our posters to each other on Friday. They are going to be the teachers for science that day, they really enjoy learning from each other.
